GENRES
Contemporary
Utilizing balletic techniques, and incorporating elements of dance improvisation and freedom of movement, Contemporary dance is highly explorative and draws influence from many genres. Instead of the strict, structured lines that are afforded in Ballet and Jazz, Contemporary focuses more on contractions and expansions, holds and releases, especially in the torso and core region, to create movements and combinations that will free and challenge your mind, heart and body all at the same time.
Girls’ Style
If you’re feeling sexy, sultry, sensual, or just downright sizzling hot, this is the class for you! A little bit of chest, a little bit of hips, and a WHOLE lot of attitude is what you can expect from a Converge’s Girls’ Style class. Movements and combinations are designed to bring out the strong femme fatale within you, incorporating isolations and waves to create routines that are tastefully seductive and definitely empowering. (Psst, BOYS are welcome too!)
Hip Hop
Be it Old School styles that focus on grooves and party elements, or Urban styles that feature intricate movements and clean isolations, one thing stays common throughout Hip Hop: Passion. An ever-growing culture that has taken the world by storm, Hip Hop grew from the streets of New York and has evolved through the decades into a highly recognized performance art. Explore bounces, isolations, and groove exercises that will help unleash the swag within you!
Jazz
Clean lines, accents and an exciting “attack” element are what define Old School Jazz, but here at Converge Studios, we offer more than just that! Our instructors are ready to share combinations and choreographies that will move you (and have you move) in various ways! You might find yourself in a sultry Broadway Jazz class, or an emotional and therapeutic Lyrical Jazz session, and maybe even an exciting Latin Jazz one! What is for certain? You’ll get to experience All That Jazz!
Jazz Funk
Fast contractions, sharp movements and crisp accents, all found in this strong, sexy genre. You would need speed, strength and control to take on this genre, which fuses techniques from multiple styles to create intricate and fast routines. The Converge Jazz Funk instructors bring with them a wealth of experience training with top Jazz Funk groups in Singapore, and are ready to share their love for this insanely addictive dance.
K-Pop
Ride the Hallyu Wave with Converge in our K-Pop classes, featuring the hottest tracks and biggest hits in the Korean Entertainment scene! K-Pop classes will focus on training basic Hip Hop techniques that are commonly utilized in K-Pop MVs, before teaching a brand new dance routine to these songs, possibly with some of the signature moves of these music videos! Classes will also focus on bringing out the performer in you, so you can truly enjoy the Converge K-Pop experience!
Locking
A funk style that incorporates stops or the “locking” of your body, Locking is a fun, infectious, and highly energetic dance genre that is sure to put a smile on your face and send the groove running through your veins! From points, to twirls, to locks, the genre is one which features well-known moves created by its many forefathers, and these will be covered in classes to give you a holistic Locking experience with Converge!
Popping
Quick contractions followed by a fast release of your muscles allow for “pops” to be created with different parts of your body. This phenomenon has spawned a unique genre that utilizes these explosive ticks: Popping. Classes will focus on introducing students to body awareness and control, together with isolation and popping techniques, all of which are crucial to mastering the genre. Routines will then be covered where these techniques can be applied and actively practised!
Street Jazz
As the name suggests, Street Jazz is a fusion of Hip Hop and Jazz techniques. Mixing the grooves of Street dance with the lines and extensions of Jazz, Street Jazz has grown in popularity over the years and is often featured in today’s American music videos, adopted by celebrities such as Britney Spears, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez and many more! Highly energetic and often danced to the latest Pop hits, our Street Jazz classes are sure to get your blood pumping and body grooving!
Waacking
Another one of our Funk style options, Waacking is sure to work your shoulders, arms, elbows and wrists with its intricate patterns and combinations! The genre combines twirls, waacks, swings and many more that play on different layers in a piece of music, creating soulful routines that are sure to challenge your groove, musicality and control. Classes are designed to improve your basic grooves, range of motion and strength, before techniques are covered and subsequently, choreographies that will allow you to waack to your heart’s content!
LEVELS
Basic
Larger portion of time will be spent on training of techniques crucial to executing choreographies, including exercises, conditioning, and repetition. Excellent for dancers with little to no background in dance, or for seasoned dancers looking for a place to hone and maintain their techniques!
Introductory
With lesser time set aside for repetition in techniques, Intro classes allow you to apply these skills in short routines, designed to allow you to dance more while still actively picking up and practising key basics of each genre. Intro classes are conducted at a slower pace to allow students to digest choreographies at a comfortable pace, and discover new ways of moving. Suitable for dancers making their first foray into choreography classes!
Beginner
Routines will be relatively longer and taught at a faster pace, with lesser time set aside for teaching of basic techniques. Class will instead focus on the choreography of the day, as well as slightly more advanced techniques used in the routine. Perfect for dancers with some prior training, or dancers with less training but seeking a challenge and push!
Intermediate
Classes will be taught on the basis that dancers have prior training in the genre, so expect routines to be longer and/or taught at a much speedier pace. Focusing on the choreography of the day allows dancers to experience different emotions, movement qualities and styles each week, pushing their artistry, technique and capacity to a greater level. Suitable for seasoned dancers with prior training, looking to learn longer or more intensive routines that will challenge, inspire and excite!
