Dance + Fashion = Meow. Fusing her passion for both dance and fashion, Meow is a captivating ball of creativity with her free-spirited and fun personality on and off stage. Also known as Cat Lady, her dance style is a unique rojak mix of feminism and masculine – mainly Waacking & Hiphop, and a big part of it is influenced by her love for all things 80s & 90s.
Her dance began at a young age mimicking dance moves from the music videos of Janet Jackson, TLC, Aaron Kwok and Grasshopper, etc. Her participation in her secondary school’s Chinese Dance Club helped lay her first foundation in dance before she was exposed to Hiphop and its various street dance styles in Singapore Polytechnic’s Hip Hop Dance Club (Strictly Dance Zone).
She started picking up Waacking in 2008 and has since trained under respected pioneers and teachers in the scene such as Aus Ninja, Tyrone Proctor, Princess Lockeroo, Kumari Suraj, etc. Her first major win and latest achievement as the Champion and Singapore representative for the annual All Asia Waacking Festival (2016) is a affirmation of her beliefs in her dance.
A class with her is all about the basics basics basics, mastering the foundations, and then creating your individual style by injecting your own flavour and essence in it. A Cat Lady who doesn’t believe in being a copy cat; but to be bold, beautiful and confident and to always stay true to your roots.
